All dead. All immortal.

'The Machines' at the Palais des Congrès, Liège, November 1980.

I met Remko at Georges Boudaille's 7th Paris Biennale in 1971 in which we both participated. In the years to follow we had several encounters, notably in New York in the late 70's where we were involved in adjacent circles. In June of 1981 I attended his show at the Jack Visser Gallery in Amsterdam and was very impressed. I got in touch with him and we started working on 'The Machines' together on a more regular base, resulting in a long series of concerts and installations, and several recordings.

The concert of 'The Machines' at the Palais des Congrès, Liège, on November 29, 1980 (Soirée Sous-terrienne pour Humains et Autres) was an early rendition of the concept. It was a double bill with Tuxedomoon, curated by Paul Paquay and Françoise Lerusse.
